Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

When we first took our first child to FPS, we knew it was a well-run and nurturing place for our child, but we didn’t expect to form some of our most valuable friendships there, as well. Now, 14 years later, we still consider these other FPS parents some of our best friends. While our children were playing and doing the important work of childhood, we were forming bonds that would support us in our roles as parents. We will always be grateful for our time there.

WHAT CALENDAR DO YOU FOLLOW?

Family Preschool typically follows the traditional Durham Public Schools calendar, including the inclement weather closing policy, however FPS will be making independent decisions this year to be communicated by the director.

DO YOU REQUIRE VACCINATION TO ATTEND FPS?

Children must comply with the immunization schedule of the State of North Carolina. We are also requesting proof of influenza immunization this year for all children, staff, and helping parents no later than October 15.

WHAT IS YOUR ILLNESS POLICY?

If a student exhibits symptoms of an illness, FPS requires the child to be fever/vomit/diarrhea free for 24 hours - without the use of fever-reducing medication - and all other symptoms must be improving before returning to school.

HOW MUCH OUTDOOR TIME WILL BE UTILIZED?

All gatherings will spend about half the day outside. Depending on the weather and time of year, doors and windows may remain open and air purifiers will be utilized when gatherings are moved indoors.

WHO IS REQUIRED TO WEAR A MASK ON CAMPUS?

Masks are optional for students, teachers, and Helping Parents.

WHO PROVIDES SNACK? IS IT ALLERGY FRIENDLY?

FPS provides a group-snack for all children that is adjusted based on classroom allergies. Snack includes one fruit or vegetable and one starch. Snack will be served “picnic style” on individual one-use containers or plates with children spaced apart. Each family will be asked to send a full water bottle each day.

WHAT WILL THE CO-OP RESPONSIBILITIES BE THIS YEAR?

FPS runs because of our co-op! Families are required to serve as Helping Parent, fulfill a “job”, and assist with fundraising.

DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BE POTTY TRAINED?

Children do not need to be potty trained to attend FPS.

ARE YOU AFFILIATED WITH ENO RIVER UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST FELLOWSHIP?
